Pure Water cleaning methods
Sometimes I come across jobs where the water-fed pole system is not practical to use. This includes indoor cleans, delicate windows, wooden frames where the paint has oxidised, flaking or in need of redecoration, or heavily soiled windows. When I clean the traditional way I will always make sure your sills and frames are wiped over.
Recently, the window cleaning industry has adopted a new technolgy that uses hyper-filtrated water. These washing systems consist of a long pole, with a brush on the end. Pure water is pumped froma holding tank into a hose up inside the pipe and out onto the brush. Typically, tap water in the Bedford area has 300-450 parts per million of dissolved solids - chalk and other material in it. The pure water I use has been treated to 0 parts per million - perfect for leaving your windows spot free once dry.
NB using pure water on your windows may take a couple of cleans in order to achieve perfect results. This applies particularly if your windows are fairly old. The pure water will "leach' out all dirt and trapped soap residue trapped over the years in the frames resulting in an improved finish each time. Ultimately the finish will be effectively sterile.
Advantages of using water-fed poles and pure water:-
- Better cleaning results. The major advantage of pure water is its desire to return to it's natural, i.e. inpure state - hence its capacity to absorb large amounts of dirt from your windows. After cleaning the windows are washed doen with pure water and left wet and will need time to dry naturally.
- Compliance with Health & Safety/Working at Height Regs. The law states that ladders should only be used when all viable alternatives have been considered. Now water-fed poles exist we cannot say we don't have a safer alternative. Due to the high risk of accidents associated with the use of ladders insurance premiums for window cleaners have risen sharply. Some window cleaners have continued using ladders as before - often without adequate insurance cover which could cause you a problem if they damage persons or property when calling at your home.
- Environmentally friendly - pure water is used, not tap water, thus eliminating the need for detergents and chemicals.
- Reduced disturbance - no more ladders clattering against your bedroom window frames
- Windows stay cleaner...longer. The absence of sticky soap residue means that dirt will find it harder to cling to your windows, hence they stay cleaner, longer.
- As your windows as a whole will be brushed down, your frames will be cleaned at the same time.
NB on occasions not all the windows will come up crystal clear after the first clean using pure water. There are many variables which can affect the final result. When I first start cleaning your windows with pure water I will have to remove all the cleaning solution deposits built up over the years before I can produce a spotless finish. Depending on the age of the windows and the amount of accumulated dirt and dust trapped in the frame, it may take a few washes to bring up the windows to tip-top condition. In the meantime, after the first one or two cleans, you may notice the odd spotting or streaks. Have faith, your windows will look immaculate in the longer term.
