Welcome!
There are many genuine cleaners and cleaning companies out there but also a large number of "chancers" offering cleaning services. This site includes advice on what to look for when choosing a window cleaner so that you receive the best possible window cleaning service.
Also, there is an explanation of traditional and modern cleaning methods, the services my business offers - window cleaning, conservatory cleaning, gutter cleaning, UPVC cleaning together with a handy guide of general cleaning tips for use around the home.
CHOOSING A WINDOW CLEANER
What factors should you take into account when looking for a window cleaner?
Well, from everything I have seen, or heard from customers, I have come to the conclusion that the following points are absolutely key:-
Good standard of cleaning - A professional window cleaner should clean the frames and the sills as well as the glass itself. Do not stand for anything less. A professional window cleaner should have been professionally trained.
Reliable service - The british weather does not make it easy for a window cleaner to keep to a strict schedule. At the same time though, you do not want your window cleaner disappearing and leaving you not knowing what is going on . Drizzle and light rain will not affect the quality of the cleaning if it is done by a professional.
Professionalism - Choose a window cleaner who has public liability insurance, someone who is registered with the taxman, someone who takes health and safety seriously and who has the correct equipment and training in its use. The window cleaning industry has left behind it's old image of dirty rags, flat caps and cigarettes. Make sure you choose a professional.
Safety conscious - Window cleaning has always been known as a high-risk job. Running up and down ladders all day does carry a huge risk to window cleaners! Nowadays, most professional window cleaners have embraced the use of pure water technology and extendable water-fed poles and reduce their reliance on ladders to an absolute minimum.
Insurance cover - Ask if your window cleaner has adequate liability cover for himself and his employees. If a heavy ladder or other piece of equipment falls on your car or your child and your window cleaner is not insured then you are going to have real problems. A professional window cleaner should be fully conversant with The Working At Height regulations and the Health & Safety requirements of his profession.
Friendliness - A professional window cleaner is interested in creating long term relationships with his clients. There are too many 'cowboys' out there who turn up for a few cleans and then disappear, especially in winter time, or for good.
Honesty - You need to be sure that the person calling to clean your windows and wandering around your property when you are out is reliable and honest. A professional window cleaner will belong to one or other of the window cleaning trade organisations, carry an ID card and been positively vetted by the police.
Reasonably priced - A professional window cleaner will expect to charge a reasonable price for a quality job and a reliable service. All the factors listed above should be taken into account when comparing his price to someone else who you can't be sure about.
There will always be a 'window cleaner' who comes around, usually in the summer time, undercutting prices. very often they are not insured and fail to turn up after a while. Most are inexperienced - and it shows.
I never lose sight of these principles as I go about my business:-
- I am a window cleaner, not just a glass cleaner. I was professionally trained at The British Window Cleaning Academy.
- I will always aim to keep to the agreed cleaning schedule between us.
- I am a member of Clearchoice, a national organisation aimed at driving up standards across the window cleaning industry and a member of the Master Guild of Window Cleaners.
- Wherever possible, I clean upstairs windows with pure water and water-fed poles. If I can avoid using a ladder I will, keeping my feet firmly on the ground.
- I value my client relationships. In addition, many of them are the best ambassadors for my business by recommending me to their friends and neighbours.
- I have been positively vetted by the Bedfordshire Police.
- I charge a fair price for a quality job and a reliable service.
